HDR Global resources
Working in partnership, we enabled researchers in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) to use data science approaches to accelerate health insights, through locally-led research that addressed global health challenges, improved community health outcomes and created valuable resources.
A wealth of valuable resources were generated by the HDR Global programme, working with our global partners and external sources, including Ìýtoolkits, guides, reports, publications, and additional insights to advance global health data science and its impact.
Health data research lifecycle

The HDR Global programme was dedicated to establishing equitable partnerships and enabling exemplar studies to accelerate scientific discovery through improved and sustainable data infrastructure and governance, while building capabilities and promoting community and policy engagement throughout the entire health data re-use project lifecycle, including:Ìý
- Research PlanningÌý
- Data Capture and StorageÌý
- Trustworthy Data SharingÌý
- Data AnalysisÌý
- Communication of Outputs and ImpactÌý
- Stakeholder EngagementÌý
Data infrastructure and governance
Working with our partners, we developed equitable and trustworthy approaches to accelerate data access, reuse and analysis. These focused on data infrastructure, technology governance, standards and policies appropriate for specific contexts.

Publication: Developing a prototype for federated analysis
To set out the methodology used by ICODA in developing a rapid prototype to support secure, federated methods for the access and analysis of sensitive health data.

Report: Considerations for establishing Trusted Research Environments for Global Health research
This document aims to provide a high-level introduction to Trusted Research Environments (TREs) for global health research.

Template Data Sharing Agreement
This aims to enable data sharing between partner organisations seeking to collaborate on global health research studies.

Generic governance processes for re-use
These were created as part of the ICODA programme. They are open, free to use and amend as needed by your organisation.

Workshop report on key outputs from health data research projects
and stakeholders to accelerate insights into the health data research projects through using the pathfinder or exemplar study approach.
Capacity development and training
We worked in partnership to build capabilities in health data infrastructure and information governance for researchers and health practitioners in LMICs, through landscaping, identifying skills gaps and enabling uptake and use of resources and training.

Publication: Landscape of essential health data science skills and research challenges in LMICs
This Ìýhighlights data science skills required for health research and the barriers to accessing capacity building initiatives in LMICs.

Publication: Data Science Capacity Building Initiatives for Health Researchers in LMICs
This sets out the current landscape of initiatives designed to strengthen data science skills for health researchers and practitioners in LMICs.

Spotlight on R
The resource covers fundamental R concepts, data manipulation, analysis techniques and data visualisation, along with specialised packages and techniques employed in health research.

Global Health Data Science hub
This is a free, open access for anyone working in data science, data management, data sharing, and data access within health research.
Community and wider stakeholder engagement
We worked in partnership to empower researchers to engage and involve communities and policy makers in their research. Our goal was to ensure that research insights from data science approaches address community needs and inform policy and practice, ultimately improving health outcomes.

NIHR Community engagement and involvement
An and Involvement in Global Health Research – online course

Community engagement toolkit
The aim of this material is to share tools, insights, and practical tips about the experience of in the 16 favelas constituting the territory of Maré, Brazil.

Mesh hub: Community engagement network
is an online network for people working in community engagement with global health research

ARCH Hub: Applying Research to Policy and Practice for Health
The aims to bring together researchers, implementors and policymakers to facilitate knowledge exchange, coordination and collaboration for the uptake and application of research findings into policy and practice.
