Angel is a pharmacy student at the University of Birmingham. She is passionate about combining healthcare with data and technology to better understand clinical problems and support patient care. Through this internship, she hopes to develop my understanding of health data research, python language and how machine learning can be applied to real clinical problems.
Angel’s project focuses on analysing plantar pressure data from people with and without diabetes, neuropathy, and diabetic foot ulcers. Machine learning methods will be used to classify individuals as DFU or non-DFU, and potentially assess DFU severity. The project will also explore pressure patterns between individuals, left and right feet, and different clinical groups. She will work with existing datasets, including shear and normal plantar pressure data, while developing skills in Python, MATLAB, data analysis, visualisation, and clinical interpretation.
