Joy is a public contributor involved in health data research and public involvement across several organisations. As well as being a Health Data Research UK Public Advisory Board Member, Joy is the Chair of the National Institute for Health and Care ResearchÌýBioResourceÌýNational Participant Advisory Group. In this role she contributes to the Improving Black Health Outcomes programme, which aims to increase representation of Black communities in health research.

In addition to these roles, Joy is a lay member of a Health and Care Research Wales Research Ethics Committee, with a focus on research involving adults who lack capacity. She also contributes to research funding processes as a Public Reviewer for the National Institute for Health and Care Research. Joy has also been selected for a public engagement internship with Administrative Data Research Wales at Swansea University, supporting work on public trust, transparency, and the use of data and AI in administrative data research.

Her involvement focuses on bringing a public perspective to how health data is used in research and practice, particularly in relation to consent, capacity, transparency, and trust. She has a particular interest in how ethical frameworks are applied in practice and how data use is understood and experienced by different communities.Ìý
