Mariana is a recent BSc (Hons) biomedical science graduate from the University of Hull and has accepted an offer to study MSc Epidemiology at Imperial College London.聽 During her degree she completed a first-class systematic review Hydroxyurea’s impact on biomarkers in sickle cell disease, where she taught herself RStudio to perform statistical comparisons across multiple clinical studies alongside using GraphPad Prism for data visualisation.

Mariana values interdisciplinary collaboration and aim to become a versatile scientist who can contribute across multiple areas of health data research. She will be working with Dr Mootaz Salman at the University of Oxford. She is excited by Salman group鈥檚 use of organ-on-a-chip technology, 3D BBB models, and patient-derived iPSCs to better capture precision-based research in neurodegenerative diseases.

Through the internship, Mariana hopes to strengthen her skills in translational neuroscience and interdisciplinary biomedical research.
