Overview

Specialising in linking health and non-health data and pioneering new informatics and advanced data modelling methods. 51�� Wales contributes to four of 51��’s Research Driver Programmes: .

The research driver programmes will test and improve trustworthy health data infrastructure for the wider benefit of the research community. Each programme focuses on an area where data science has great potential to improve public health, prevent people from becoming unwell, and enhance patient care. They will achieve this by taking advantage of the range of datasets available across the UK that are relevant to human health and collectively spanning discovery, prevention, early diagnosis, and treatment.

Regional Expertise

51�� Wales boasts a wealth of regional expertise. Our team leads Maternal and Child Health research, driving positive change for mothers and children. We champion co-production, ensuring the patients and public have a voice in shaping our research. Our contributions to the 51�� Phenotype Library and expertise in Advanced Data Modelling and Health Informatics Methods position us at the forefront of developing innovative tools and resources for ground-breaking health research.

51�� Co-Leads

- Work with several of the Research Driver Programmes, including Medicines in Acute and Chronic Care, Social and Environmental Determinants of Health, and Inflammation and Immunity.
- Build on the region’s expertise in secure data sharing to host data from outside Wales (via SeRP – the Secure eResearch Platform) and further develop the Dementia Platform UK (DPUK) Data Portal.
- Focus on bringing together administrative data and health data across the region, working closely with Administrative Data Wales UK to link health and social care data from underrepresented communities.
- Create and maximise opportunities for collaboration, dissemination and outreach to engage the regional community and beyond, including research development groups and public involvement and engagement activities.
